High School Golf Meet Spectator Handout
Welcome to today's Iowa high school golf meet, governed by the Iowa High School Athletic Association (IHSAA), United States Golf Association (USGA) rules, and course-specific guidelines.
Spectator Positioning
Stay at least 30 yards behind golfers or on the cart path while observing play, except when crossing fairways without interference. Move to the cart path even with the green once players reach that area to allow the next group to proceed.
No Advice or Coaching
Parents and spectators must not coach, advise on shot selection, or converse with players in any way that could influence play. Positive encouragement like "nice shot" is allowed if timed appropriately and not disruptive. Violations may result in the spectator being asked to leave by meet management.
Etiquette and Conduct
Remain quiet during swings, avoid abusive language or unsportsmanlike behavior, and help search for lost balls if asked. No tobacco, alcohol, or mood-altering substances on the course. Silence cell phones; use only for emergencies, not casual communication.
Food and Pace of Play
Do not bring outside food or drinks—purchase from course concessions to respect the venue. Stay one shot ahead of the group you're following to maintain pace and avoid hindering play. Report concerns to officials, not players.
Additional Notes
Play follows USGA Rules unless modified by IHSAA or local rules announced at the meet. Coaches (max two per team) may advise tee-to-green only. Thank you for supporting our student-athletes with class—enjoy the competition!
