Course Information

Hole #1 – 322 yard Par 5 – Penalty Area to left (creek) and on your approach shot to the green. Stay below the hole on the green.

Hole #2 – 135 yard Par 3 – Out of bounds (OB) left. Best shot is on the green or short in the approach fairway. 1 more club for uphill shot. Don’t go right.

Hole #3 – 335 yard Par 4 – Playing as a Par 3 today. OB left. Be careful not to go long as there is OB.

Hole #4 – 253 yard Par 4 – Hit your drive straight and try to clear the hill. Don’t go right and get caught in the trees that protect the green. Very important to try and stay below the hole on this one, the green is very fast back to front.

Hole #5 – 333 yard Par 4 – Aim left on this one. Lots of trouble to the right, Penalty Area (creek). Uphill approach shot and be careful not to go long as there is OB.

Hole #6 – 91 yard Par 3 – Best shot is on the green or short in front or in front left. Try to avoid being right of the green. Stay below the hole.

Hole #7 – 290 yard Par 4 – OB left. Second shot will be a blind shot to the green. 1 more club for uphill approach shot. Very small green. Aim for left edge of green, so that you have more green to work with if you are not on.

Hole #8 – 255 yard Par 4 – Straight downhill to the green. OB left and behind the green. To the right and behind (right of the last white stake) the green is lateral hazard.

Hole #9 – 455 yard Par 5 – Demands a good tee shot favoring the middle of the fairway left of the large tree. Second shot will be a blind, dead straight shot down the middle of the fairway. Green slopes left to right, try to stay below the hole. And remember, all putts break toward the creek.

Rules

RULES FOR MARENGO GOLF CLUB

MAXIMUM SCORE: • 10 - After reaching 10 strokes please pick up. You will mark an 'X' on the scorecard.

CELL PHONES - USING FOR RANGE FINDER/YARDAGES/SCORING

NO COMMUNICATION WITH PARENTS/SPECTATORS…ONLY YOUR COACH!

OUT OF BOUNDS White stakes and all boundary fences denote out of bounds.
Out of bounds in regulation, stroke and distance penalty!

TREES You can not improve your line of flight from behind trees. All trees are in play.

PROVISIONAL BALL In case of question relating to out of bounds – HIT a provisional ball. The player must announce his or her intentions to the group. Holes where this may come into play: Left on #2, #3, #7, and #8. Right on #1, and #5. Long on #3, #5 and #8.

CROSSING OF FAIRWAYS Always allow the higher number fairway to hit first so to keep play moving smoothly. This especially comes into play with #3, #4, and #5 fairways.

LOST BALL Consensus of Group

PENALTY AREAS The creek will be played as a HAZARD AREA everywhere. The hazard is considered to be the longer grass surrounding the creek. Behind #3—left of the last white stake is out of bounds, right of it is played as HAZARD. If your ball is in or is lost in the HAZARD you may… (1 STROKE PENALTY)

  1. Play a ball as nearly as possible at the spot from which the original ball was last played; or

  2. Drop a ball behind the hazard, keeping the point at which, the original ball last crossed the margin of the hazard directly between the hole and the spot on which the ball is dropped, with no limit to how far behind the hazard the ball may be dropped; or

  3. Drop a ball outside the hazard within two club-lengths of and not nearer the hole than the point where the original ball last crossed the margin of the hazard or a point on the opposite margin of the water hazard equidistant from the hole. (NOT on #1 or #5)

** WINTER RULES** 6” no closer to the hole. (Anywhere!) If preferred 6” winter rule does not give you good turf to hit from… ask group permission to extend the 6” to hit from good turf. (No closer to the hole.) You may take more than 6” if needed. -or- Mark, pick, clean, and place. Again, you may take more than 6”.

Hole #3 is being played as a par 3, so it’s a pretty good walk from #2 green to #3 tees.

If you are in a bare spot, check with your group, then you may move to nearest point of relief (no closer to the hole) and drop with no penalty.

Cart paths, ball washers, etc.—drop one club length to the nearest point of relief, no closer to the hole.

You will play from the WHITE tees

Continuous putt at your own discretion.

Blue marker-200 yards, White marker-150 yards, and Red marker-100 yards. If a stake or marker interferes with swing or stance take relief no closer to the hole.
(Check with Group)

Make sure you start on the correct hole.

Mark your scorecard in front of each other at the completion of each hole.

If you don’t agree with a score work it out then and there, before you tee off on the next hole.

When finished, your group will report to the scorers table to review your scorecards before you sign them.

If you don’t agree with a scorecard, don’t sign it. Each card should have ALL signatures.

One person will record scores on their phone using the KODIAK Golf APP.

This will be unofficial until verified with scorecards at the end of the round.

PLEASE REPLACE DIVOTS AND REPAIR BALL MARKS ON THE GREENS.

INTRODUCE YOURSELF AND IDENTIFY YOUR GOLF BALL TO ONE ANOTHER, IF YOU CHANGE BALLS LET EVERYONE KNOW! (Always make sure your hitting your ball!)

Have a great day, and remember always practice good etiquette!!!

Cell Phone

The casual use of cell phones (texting, talking, internet browsing, etc.) is prohibited during regular season and tournament play except for the use as a rangefinder or official scorekeeping.

No cell phone for general use may occur until the player’s round is completed and the scorecard is submitted to the official scorer.

Use of a cell phone for unauthorized purpose(s) will result in a code of conduct violation per IHSAA rules.

One exception to player use of a cell phone is in case of an emergency during the round.

In response to USGA Rule 4.3a(4), the IHSAA shall expand its local rule banning casual use of cell phones to include restrictions on all portable audio/video devices that players might watch or listen to during the course of play. Penalty will result in a code of conduct violation.

** COACH, PLAYER & SPECTATOR CELL PHONES**

If a coach/spectator cell phone rings while a player’s swing is in progress, the player may take his original shot or hit a second ball. If the player elects to hit a second shot, the player must take the second shot regardless of the outcome. Understand, if a player’s cell phone rings during competition the player is assessed a code of conduct violation. Player Cell phones for casual usage are prohibited during regular season and all tournament play. No casual usage of a cell phone is allowed by a player until his round is completed and his score is turned into the official scorer. One exception to player use of a cell phone is in case of an emergency during the course of play.

Code of Conduct

The IHSAA local rule governing code of conduct for players prescribes that a verbal warning shall be issued on the first offense for conduct unbecoming high school players. Such conduct shall include, but is not limited to:

Club throwing or ball throwing defined as could cause harm to another participant, spectator, course or means of releasing frustration. Use of abusive language. Willful acts which damage property or equipment on the course. Other unbecoming conduct as determined by the Golf Rules Committee (coaches’ jury). Second offense, the player shall be assessed a two-stroke penalty.

Third offense, the player shall be disqualified.

In regular season meets, the code of conduct shall be enforced by the Golf Rules Committee (coaches’ jury) which in dual meets is comprised of the two head coaches and/or PGA pro serving as the rules interpreter in that dual meet. In multi-team competitions, the designated three-person coaches’ jury and/or PGA pro serving as the rules interpreter shall comprise the Golf Rules Committee.

Players and coaches have the discretion to alert the Golf Rules Committee if they believe a Code of Conduct violation has occurred.

The IHSAA Code of Conduct Rule does not negate the ability to enforce USGA Rule 1.2a for “serious misconduct” which may result in immediate disqualification. The phrase “serious misconduct” in Rule 1.2a is intended to cover player misconduct that is so far removed from the expected norm in golf that the most severe sanction of removing a player from the competition is justified. The committee must determine if the misconduct is serious considering all the circumstances. Please refer to USGA Rule 1.2a Interpretations for further clarification.

Any player who uses tobacco (including smokeless and similar devices) or gambles on the course is automatically disqualified per USGA Rule 1.2a for serious misconduct. In the case of gambling between players, the players involved are disqualified in that given circumstance.

Eligibility Rule 14(2) Penalties: Any student disqualified from an interscholastic contest by game officials for flagrant, violent, or verbal misconduct will be ineligible for the next regular scheduled game/meet at the level of competition and all other games/meets in the interim at any level in addition to any other penalties the IHSAA or school may assess. The second violation carries a four games/meets automatic ineligibility. It will be the responsibility of the host school meet manager to report any disqualification(s) to the IHSAA the day following the meet, if the meet is held on a Friday or Saturday, then on the Monday following the meet. It is the coach’s responsibility to inform his/her administrator of any disqualification(s). The administrator will file an official report form with the IHSAA on-line.

The IHSAA and the Golf Coaches Advisory Committee feel the code of conduct rules are appropriate.
